Boardman, Oregon
Boardman offers a completely different side of Oregon. Along the Columbia River in Eastern Oregon, the landscape opens up into big skies, farmland, riverfront trails and long stretches of highway. It's an excellent overnight stop on an Eastern Oregon road trip, but it's also worth slowing down for a night or two.

Tips
Where to Stay - River Lodge + Cabins is built around the river. Rooms and private cabins, a riverfront trail, private beach, pool and hot tub make it feel much more like a destination retreat than a highway overnight.
A car is essential.
Boardman has a much drier climate than the Oregon Coast, with summer highs commonly reaching the 90s and very little summer precipitation.
